MUSICAL PERFORMANCE “SMOKE SAUNA SYMPHONY”
The musical performance “Smoke Sauna Symphony” (“Suidsusannasümfoonia”) takes the audience to the world of ancient Estonian traditions. The legends of smoke sauna are told with the means of contemporary music theatre by well-known Estonian folk singers and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, creating an atmosphere of old times covered with mysticism. "Smoke Sauna Symphony" tells a story about the creation of the world, but it is also about the Creator and the human being, its joy, hope and disappearance.
Inspired by Estonian lore, the Finnish national epic “Kalevala” and Hasso Krull’s “When Stones Were Still Soft“, the musical performance was performed at Mooste in Võromaa – the part of Estonia famous for its smoke sauna tradition. This ancient Estonian tradition also belongs to the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Cultural Heritage of Humanity (see more at www.savvusann.ee).
“Smoke Sauna Symphony” was dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. It was commissioned by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Võro Institute and Võro Society VKKF. The performance was produced by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
The composer Märt-Matis Lill received the LHV new music award Au-Tasu for “Smoke Sauna Symphony“.
Online concert "Eyes of the Beholder" is the peak of the Estonian Music Days festival. ERSO, EPCC, soloists and conductor Mihhail Gerts will be performing contemporary music by Baltic composers.
With the concert "Beethoven & Kotzebue", we shed light on an exciting collaboration that took place more than 200 years ago.
